Anchorage police: Missing woman's body found in Mountain View

The Anchorage Police Department's homicide unit is investigating the death of a woman found in the neighborhood of Mountain View on Wednesday morning.

Police identified the woman as 54-year-old Irma Williams. Her family has been notified, police said.

Williams was reported missing to police on Sept. 30. She was last seen by her family about two weeks earlier, police said.

On Oct. 1, police asked for the public's help in locating Williams. According to a news release, she lived in the neighborhood and had been known to frequent three parks in the Mountain View area. Her family told police that Williams had never gone missing before, and they were concerned for her well-being.

"Right now detectives are in the very early stages of a death investigation and we will provide more information when we are able to share the facts of the case," said spokesperson Jennifer Castro.

Anyone with information about Williams' death is asked to call police at 786-8900.
