Citizen tip leads to arrest in Anchorage

Update, Oct. 16, 2014, 6 p.m.: Anchorage police say William Virgil Gulliford was arrested earlier Thursday after someone recognized him in the area of West Benson Boulevard and Spenard Road and called police dispatch.

Original story: Anchorage police are asking for the public's help in locating wanted felon William Virgil Gulliford.

The 26-year-old man is wanted on a felony warrant for a probation violation stemming from a conviction for attempted sex assault of a minor.

According to court records, he pleaded guilty to a second-degree attempted sex abuse charge in January 2008. He was sentenced to nearly two years in prison. The court records indicate he broke his probation conditions three times since late 2009, receiving from three months to no jail time for each offense.

Police described Gulliford as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information about Gulliford's whereabouts is asked to call the Anchorage Police Department at 786-8900.
