Three teams perfect after pool play in Service-Dimond volleyball tourney

Three teams emerged undefeated after a long day of pool play Friday in the 20-team Dimond-Service volleyball tournament.

Teams played matches consisting of two sets to 25 points, and the only teams to win all of their sets were South, Dimond and Kodiak. Each of those teams scored sweeps against the other four teams in their respective pools to finish the day with 8-0 records.

The other pool winner was West Valley, which was 6-2 after sweeping Palmer and Soldotna but splitting with Chugiak and Seward.

After 40 two-set matches played at Service and Dimond on Friday, Saturday's action will involve bracket play. The top two teams in each of four pools advanced to the Gold bracket, which will be played at Dimond. The teams that finished third and fourth in their pool will play in the Silver bracket and the fifth-place teams will play in the Bronze bracket. Silver and Bronze bracket matches will be held at Service.

The championship match for the Gold bracket is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Saturday at Dimond.
