Frighteningly fast Wilt bests the field in Saturday 4K race

Former UAA cross-country runner and current Seawolves' assistant coach Hallidie Wilt was scary fast Saturday, besting a field of 774 runners in the Skinny Raven Frightening 4K in downtown Anchorage.

Wilt, a high school standout at Unalaska High who went on to become an all-region performer at UAA, completed the course in 13 minutes, 47 seconds, beating runner-up Jared Kirkham by seven seconds.

Wilt has had a phenomenal Alaska racing season. She also won the Alaska Heart Run and a number of other local road races this summer, including the Bear Paw 5K and the Her Tern quarter marathon.

Wilt was one of three women in the top 10 overall. Two-time Cook Inlet Conference girls' cross-country running champion Morgan Lash, a South High junior, finished seventh in 14:08, while Anchorage's Emily Kirkham was 10th in 14:55.

Men ages 30-39 division winner Jared Kirkham won the men's title in 13:54, beating Santiago Prosser and Nate Graves across the finish line by two seconds.

The real battle was for second in the men's division, where Prosser, an Anchorage seventh grader, edged Graves, a sophomore at Anchorage Christian Schools, by one tenth of a second.

The out-and-back, 4-kilometer course (about 2.5 miles) began near the Captain Cook Hotel, wound through downtown down toward Ship Creek, then returned to the finish line. Participants were encouraged to wear Halloween costumes to the event, which also included post-race trick-or-treating, a cookie decorating contest and hay rides.

The race was the last road race scheduled in Anchorage until the Skinny Raven Turkey Trot on Nov. 27.
