Moose capture Region III volleyball title

Palmer's Mariah McNamara showed off the skills that earned her Player of the Year honors in Region III volleyball, piling up 20 kills and 19 digs in her team's championship-match victory over Kodiak on Saturday.

Leiah Reichel slammed 21 kills and Carly Venzke talllied 24 digs for the Moose, who beat Kodiak in five sets.

Earlier in the day, Kodiak beat Colony to advance to the title match. Kodiak and Colony will join the Moose at the Class 4A state tournament that begins Thursday at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Second team -- Abby Beck, Kenai; Ashley Turcotte, Colony; Alex Ashe, Soldotna; Richelle Walker, Kodiak; Morgan Johnson, Colony; Skyler Shaw, Soldotna; Carly Venzke, Palmer.
