Tickets for annual ski train to Curry already sold out

Tickets for the ever-popular ski train to Curry sold out Monday afternoon, when the last night tickets of the 664 tickets were scarfed up.

Erin Beam, business manager of the Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage, said the ski train has, for decades, be renown for its backcountry skiing, party atmosphere and the festive Alaska Blaskapelle Polka Band that plays during the day-long trip north of Anchorage. Although tickets -- $130 for ski club members and $160 for nonmembers -- are nonrefundable, there are often people seeking to sell to due to unforeseen events as the date approaches and NSAA will maintain a wait list.

The ski train began in 1972 as a partnership between the association and the Alaska Railroad. For years, the train traveled south to Grandview but in recent years has gone to Curry.
