Public vote open for Alaska Sports Hall of Fame

Time to cast your ballot for the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.

Public balloting for the Hall of Fame is open through Tuesday, Dec. 2, at alaskasportshall.org.

People are welcome to vote online for their favorite candidates in three catergories -- individuals, moments and events.

Once balloting ends, the public's picks will be combined with the picks of the Hall of Fame's nine-member selection panel to determine the Class of 2015. Each panel member gets one vote per category, and the public's top picks in each category will count as a 10th vote.

The Class of 2015 will be announced Dec. 8 and inducted in a February ceremony.

Since its creation in 2007, the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame has inducted 27 people, 12 moments and eight events. The Class of 2014 included two-time NBA champion Mario Chalmers of Anchorage; champion basketball player-turned-coach Jeannie Hebert-Truax of Wasilla; the UAA men's basketball upset of Michigan in 1988 and the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.
