Around the rinks (Shortridge, Central Scouting, Bailey)

Goaltender Andrew Shortridge of Eagle River, who is killing it for the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL, has his college picked -- he has committed to Quinnipiac of the ECAC, according to the Wings.

Shortridge, 19, is a 6-3, 175-pounder who has racked an 8-4-0 record with a 1.89 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and two shutouts. Yeah, he's kinda getting it done.

Meanwhile, the NHL's Central Scouting has put out its November Players to Watch list, which includes four Alaskans as C-rated players -- that means they are projected as possible picks from the fourth round on in next summer's draft.

The list includes forward Gage Mackie of Anchorage, who owns 5-3--8 totals in 12 games with Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minnesota); goaltender Eric Schierhorn of Anchorage, who plays for the USHL's Muskegon Lumberjacks and is 9-3-1, 2.72, .915; forward Tanner Schachle of Wasilla, who is 2-2--4 in 21 games with NAHL Kenai River;defenseman Christian Hausinger of Anchorage, who has 2-10--12 totals in 21 games with NAHL Odessa.

Also -- and Jaromir discovered this after taking a couple days off and locking the computer away in a vault -- that Penn State winger Casey Bailey of Anchorage was the Big Ten's First Star for his 3-1--4 totals in a split with UMass-Lowell. Bailey owns 8-4--12 totals in 10 games, which ranks him sixth in Division I in goals per game (.80).
