Missing Anchorage woman's death ruled homicide

The Anchorage Police Department has ruled the death of a woman found in the neighborhood of Mountain View in mid-October a homicide.

Irma Williams, 54, was reported missing to police on Sept. 30. She was last seen by her family about two weeks earlier, police said.

The family told officers that Williams was in regular contact with them and friends and that not hearing from her for weeks was unusual.

Williams' body was discovered on Oct. 15, and the police department's homicide unit began an investigation but would not say the death involved foul play.

The State Medical Examiner Office took custody of the body and conducted an autopsy, which revealed "Williams was the victim of a homicide," police said Thursday.

"Details surrounding her death are not being released at this time," they said.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Detectives are trying to piece together the events leading to Williams' death and are asking anyone with information as to her whereabouts or her associates prior to Sept. 30 to call police at 786-8900.
