UAA women charge into Shootout with second big hoops win

The UAA women's basketball team bounced another opponent out of the gym Friday night, rolling nonconference Christian Brothers 78-41 at the Alaska Airlines Center.

One night after running the Lady Bucs out of the gym with an 88-43 blowout, the Seawolves got another solid offensive performance to move to 4-0.

Kiki Robertson had 13 points to lead a balanced offensive attack for UAA, which got 12 points from Megan Mullings, 11 from Leah Bonner and 10 each from Alli Madison and Jessica Madison. Alli Madison also had 10 boards for the Seawolves, who held a 57-31 advantage on the boards. Bonner and Jessica Madison grabbed eight rebounds each.

UAA held Christian Brothers to just 18.9 percent shooting and limited the Memphis-based Division II school to 14 points in the first half.

"I thought we played another good game, there's a couple things we have to work on, taking care of the ball, but we had a good second half," said UAA coach Ryan McCarthy.

The Seawolves forced 24 Christian Brothers turnovers, but were a bit sloppy, committing 24 giveaways of their own.

"You get amped up for one particular game and we won by quite a large margin so it's hard to be able to stay up with an opponent that you're familiar with," said McCarthy said. "They came out fired up."
