Bethel pool reopens

BETHEL -- Bethel's new pool reopened at noon Saturday, its filter system fixed and volunteers conducting fire watch.

"Kids are splashing in it right now," Raunicka Ray, manager of the Yukon-Kuskokwim pool and fitness center, said Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., the first 75 kids age 3 to 17 will get into the pool free, she said.

Hours for the Yukon-Kuskokwim Regional Aquatic Health and Safety Center are noon to 8 p.m. on weekends, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to Friday.

A permanent fix to the sprinkler system is underway. City officials expect that to be complete by mid-December. The facility then will be open longer hours.
