UAA's Zanders a repeat choice on All-West volleyball team

For the second year in a row, UAA outside hitter Katelynn Zanders is among the best in the west.

Zanders, a junior who lead UAA in kills with 3.44 per set, was named to the NCAA Division II West all-region team that was announced Wednesday.

Teammate Julia Mackey, also a junior outside hitter, earned honorable mention honors.

Zanders, a South High graduate, and Mackey, a West Valley grad, helped UAA to a 21-6 record and a berth in the West Region tournament, where the Seawolves lost in the first round.

Zanders was one of five players from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to be named first-team all-region, joining Michelle Terpstra of Northwest Nazarene, Samantha Hutchinson and Kayla Erickson of Western Washington and Catie Fry of Central Washington.

Doug Erickson, coach of Northwest Nazarene, was named the region's coach of the year.

By garnering first-team honors, Zanders becomes eligible for All-America consideration. She earned All-America recognition last season.
