Fresh snow lets Alyeska open upper mountain for weekend

Alyeska Resort will open a few trails on the upper mountain for three days starting Friday before shutting down again to make more snow. Riders and skiers should expect to use the tram to get up and down the mountain, resort officials wrote in a press release.

Mighty Mite, Trapline and "possibly" Gail's Gully, Main Street, the Weir and the Runway trails will be open. Resort officials wrote there will be no skiing or snowboarding below the base of the Glacier Bowl, which also means no beginner or intermediate runs will be open.

Alyeska will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Tickets will be discounted. Adults can ride for $50, students for $40, and military and seniors can play on the mountain for $20, as can children 6 to 12. Children under 5 can shred for free. Foot passengers can still ride the tram for free until Dec. 23.

The mountain will close again on Monday -- to make more snow -- and reopen for riding seven days a week beginning Dec. 12.
