'Bering Sea Gold' reality TV star arrested in Nome heroin investigation

One of the people arrested Thursday as part of a yearlong effort to combat heroin in Nome is a Discovery Channel reality TV star.

Yvonne Adkison, 22, is a dive tender on the Wild Ranger, a gold dredge operated by her family and featured on "Bering Sea Gold," the reality series about dredges operating out of Nome.

Adkison and Kevin Beamish, also 22, were arrested Thursday and arraigned on multiple felony drug charges, according to KNOM.

According to a bio on the Discovery Channel website, Adkison grew up in Homer.

"Yvonne had a fairly typical Alaskan childhood, and enjoys snowboarding, fishing, camping, and hanging out with her friends," the bio reads. "Yvonne joined the Wild Ranger crew this summer, working for her dad, and quickly found her niche as a dive tender."

According to KNOM, Adkison has a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 15.

Troopers with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team from Nome, Kotzebue and Anchorage as well as Nome troopers, police and a K-9 unit executed a search warrant on a home Thursday for suspected heroin sales, an online troopers dispatch said.

The agencies seized 10 grams of suspected heroin, scales, packaging material, $1,840 in cash and three vehicles, wrote Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman, in an email.

Troopers are waiting on test results to confirm that the substance seized is heroin, Peters wrote.

Note: An earlier version of this story stated that a third man was arrested on heroin charges. He has not been arrested, KNOM reports.
