Slemons beats the guys while cruising to 5-K victory

Running in a field of more than 600 on Saturday, Lia Slemons was the only person to break the 20-minute mark in the 5-kilometer Jingle Bell Run.

Slemons finished in 19 minutes, 47 seconds. She was more than 30 seconds ahead of the top man, Kuba Wuls, who finished in 20:21.

Dave Dunfee placed second among men and third overall in 20:35. Next came Jonny Hughes in 20:41, followed by Leslie Varys, who placed second among women and fifth overall in 20:45.

The race, a fundraiser for arthritis, attracted 437 women and 193 men.
