Barrow, Service set for hoops showdown in Wasilla

Barrow got a last-second bucket Tuesday to advance to the championship game of the Doc Larson Roundball Classic in Wasilla, where they'll face undefeated Service in Wednesday's championship game. The defending Class 4A champion Cougars advanced to the title game with a 15-point win over West Valley on Tuesday. Both teams are undefeated this season.

In other tournament games Tuesday, the Thunder Mountain girls defeated host Wasilla and the Lake Stevens (Washington) girls defeated Barrow. Here's how Tuesday's games played out at the annual hoops tournament at Wasilla High:

Barrow boys 59, Thunder Mountain 56

Makana Ahgeak nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Barrow to a 59-56 win over Thunder Mountain on Tuesday.

Ahgeak (10 points) was one of three Whalers in double figures. Kamaka Hepa scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Barrow, which also got 10 points and seven rebounds from Kevin Goodwin.

Jacob Calloway scored 15 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds for Thunder Mountain, which also got 13 points from Trent Uddipa.

Barrow, which defeated Mesa Verde (Citrus Heights, California) on Monday, moved to 2-0 in the tourney. They'll face Service in Wednesday's championship game. The Cougars reached the final with wins over Wasilla and West Valley.

Service boys 66, West Valley 51

Service got monster games from Nathan Fromm and Pindo Drammeh in its 66-51 win over West Valley.

Fromm had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars while Drammeh had 14 points and 17 boards. Eben Upton added 11 points for Service, the defending Alaska Class 4A state champions.

Tyrell Peterson and Daniel Hornbuckle each scored 15 points for West Valley.

Mesa Verde (Calif.) boys 51, Wasilla 48

Bret Lynch scored a game-high 25 points to lift Mesa Verde (Citrus Heights, California) to a 51-48 win over host Wasilla in the final game of the evening Tuesday.

Alex Baham scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Wasilla, which also got 11 points from Ryan Milleron.

Wasilla will face West Valley on Wednesday's final day of the tournament while Mesa Verde will play Thunder Mountain in the tourney's other consolation game.

Thunder Mountain girls 51, Wasilla 45

Thunder Mountain got a game-high 24 points from Ashley Young and another 16 from Ava Tompkins to earn a 51-45 win over host Wasilla.

The Falcons never trailed and led by as many as 14 points.

Azlynn Brandenburg scored 14 points to lead the Warriors.

Lake Stevens (Wash.) girls 69, Barrow 27

Lake Stevens held Barrow to 27.8 percent shooting and forced 33 turnovers to earn a 69-27 win.

Kylee Griffen and Hailey Wilson each scored 14 points for Lake Stevens, which also got nine points and five rebounds from Marissa Walton.

Angel Telfair had eight points to lead Barrow.
