Dimond, Bartlett boys to battle in Prep Shootout showdown

The Dimond Lynx boys basketball team cruised into the championship game of its own tournament Friday night, defeating Grace Christian in one of two semifinals of the Alaska Prep Shootout.

The Lynx will face Bartlett at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in the tournament championship. Bartlett advanced with a win over Wasilla.

In other tournament games, Juneau downed Kenai and ACS got by Lathrop.

Friday night was a busy one for high school tournaments, with action in Kodiak at the Joe Floyd Winter Classic and in Palmer at the Palmer Elks Invitational. Here's a run-down of the action:

ALASKA PREP SHOOTOUT

Dimond 43, Grace Christian 25

Dimond held Grace Christian to 28 percent shooting and held the Grizzlies to single digits in every quarter in a 43-25 semifinal win.

Josh Fosi scored 12 points to lead the Lynx, who also got eight from Mason Marchand and seven from Eric Jenkins.

Tobin Karlberg scored 10 points for the Grizzlies, who will play in the third place game at 7 p.m. against Wasilla.

Bartlett 62, Wasilla 59

Bartlett used a 25-11 third quarter in its 62-49 semifinal round win over Wasilla.

Jadah Manuel scored 25 points to lead Bartlett, which also got 16 from Tyler Boyer and 10 from Bentiu Panoam.

Alex Baham had 18 points and Isaac Houck added a dozen for the Warriors.

Juneau 69, Kenai 63

Juneau withstood a late Kenai Central rally to earn a 69-63 win in the tournament's consolation round. Guy Bean scored 23 points to lead the Crimson Bears, who also got 11 from Bruce Jones and nine from Treyson Ramos.

Keith Ivy scored 16 for Kenai, which got 11 each from Jonah Theisen, Josh Jackman and Kyle Foree.

Juneau will play ACS in Saturday's fourth-place game while Kenai will play Lathrop at 3 p.m. for seventh place.

ACS 55, Lathrop 46

Anchorage Christian pulled away late on Friday afternoon, outscoring Lathrop by eight points in the second half to take a 55-46 consolation-round win.

Bobby Wilson scored a game-high 19 points for the Lions, who also got 16 from Levi Auble and 12 from Trey Huckabay. ACS shot 47 percent from the field and hit seven of its 14 3-point tries.

Kobe Titus-Milk scored 17 points and Jaden Whiteside netted 13 for Lathrop.

JOE FLOYD/RAVN AVIATION WINTER CLASSIC

Daniel Hornbuckle pumped in 41 points to lead West Valley to a 77-71 win over East on Friday in the Joe Floyd Christmas Classic in Kodiak.

Several games scheduled to be played Thursday had to be moved to Friday and Saturday due to inclement weather that kept teams from Anchorage and Fairbanks from reaching Kodiak until Friday. In Friday's other boys game, host Kodiak defeated Mt. Edgecumbe 50-35.

On the girls' side, Kodiak beat Mt. Edgecumbe 48-40, East downed Mt. Edgecumbe 71-28 and Lathrop defeated Kodiak 37-34.

Taria Page scored 16 points to lead East over Mt. Edgecumbe, and Lorna Suaava, Jasmine Richard and Sandin Kidder netted 10 each.

PALMER ELKS INVITATIONAL

Eleven players scored to lead the South boys to a 52-25 win over North Pole on Friday in the Palmer Elks Invitational at Palmer High.

In the other boys' game, Thunder Mountain got past the host Moose, 74-71. In the girls' tournament, West Valley defeated North Pole 69-10.
