East, South grapplers get wins

East 50, West 30

East led from start to finish Friday in a 50-30 Cook Inlet Conference dual-meet wrestling win over West.

Alex Kennedy (145 pounds) and Jon Todd (152) recorded a major decision and a pin, respectively, to boost the T-birds to a 10-0 early lead. Also getting wins for East were Harrison Zinsli (195). Keahi Queja (220), William Todd (113), Brenan Powell (126), Sammy Thirakul (132) and Hunter Girard (138).

Winning matches for West were Chardo Elliott (160) and Victoria Treader (120). The Eagles picked up three wins via forfeit, and East won two by forfeit.

West and East will be among 17 teams competing in Saturday's Glenn Vandergaw wrestling tournament at Dimond. The field includes all eight Anchorage public schools.

South 75, Eagle River 10

South wrestlers won 13 of the 15 matches, seven of them with pins, to thwart Eagle River 75-10 in CIC dual-meet action Friday at Eagle River.

Getting pins for the Wolverines were Gabe McSharry (170 pounds), Elisha Wright (220), Matt Keogh (285), David Lincoln (106), Greg Shack (126), Gavin Alvarado (132) and Noah Ottum (138).

Eagle River forfeited four matches, and South's other wins came from Scott Harris (113) and Matt Glover (120).

The Wolves' lone victories came from David Wilson, who got a pin at 160 pounds, and Collin Blank, who posted a major decision at 98.

South will be among the favorites at Saturday's Glenn Vandergaw tournament.
