No-height in pole vault sinks UAA's Thomas

UAA's Cody Thomas failed to clear the bar in the pole vault Saturday, a setback that sent him from first place to third place in the men's heptathlon at the Ed Jacoby Indoor Invitational track and field meet in Nampa, Idaho.

Thomas led the heptathlon after five of seven events, but after passing on the first three heights in pole vault, he wasn't able to clear 3.05 meters on three attempts.

He came back to finish second in the 10,000 meters, but going scoreless in the pole vault was too much to overcome. Thomas finished with 4,615 points; first-place Dino Dodig of Washington State won with 5,297.

In other events, Haleigh Lloyd place third in the women's 800 meters (2:15.27) to lead the UAA women.

Other top results for the UAA men included fifth-place finishes for long jumper Tevin Gladden and shot putter Grant George. The women got sixth-place finish from Jamie Ashcroft in the 200 and a seventh-place showing from Karolin Anders in the high jump.
