Service, South chalk up CIC hockey wins

Service 5, Eagle River 3

A three-goal second period helped Service ward off Eagle River 5-3 in a Cook Inlet Conference hockey game Saturday at the McDonald Center.

The game was tied 1-1 after one period, with Jesse Jackson scoring early for Eagle River and Matthew Stone getting the equalizer for Service with a short-handed goals with 68 seconds left.

The Cougars took a 3-1 lead with goals by Brad Kuper and Brandon Vukasin, but Eagle River made it a one-goal game with Sutton McDonald's power play goal with less than four minutes left in the second period. With a little more than two minutes left, Edgar Gonzalez scored to restore Service's two-goal lead.

McDonald scored again early in the third period to make 4-3. Service's Landon Hill ended the scoring halfway through the period.

Service goalie Ronan Klancher stopped 13 shots and Eagle River goalie Trent Burnham stopped 19.

South 12, Bartlett 0

Daniel Ramsey scored four goals and John Mattson delivered two to power South's 12-0 CIC hockey win over Bartlett at Ben Boeke Arena on Saturday.

Two of Ramsey's strikes came in the first period, when the Wolverines built a 5-0 lead.

Bartlett goaltender Denton Blayze, under fire all game, stopped 36 shots. South's Jeremy Swayman stopped 15.
