Anchorage police closed down part of a residential street in Anchorage's Airport Heights neighborhood Wednesday afternoon to investigate a shooting.
Just after 2 p.m., a man called police to say he had been shot, according to police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro. Police responded to the 1500 block of Norene Street and found the man, who had a gunshot wound to his lower body.
The man was taken to the hospital, and the injury appears to be non life-threatening, Castro said.
Police were gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses Wednesday, and part of Norene Street between East 15th and 16th avenues was shut down as a result of the investigation, Castro said. She said the circumstances of the shooting were still unclear.
"We're not sure yet if it was a self-inflicted wound or if there's a criminal association with this event," Castro said. "We're still trying to put those pieces together."
