Anchorage police said they have arrested 32-year-old Jesse Kern in connection with a Wednesday afternoon shooting in the Anchorage neighborhood of Airport Heights.

According to a press release from the Anchorage Police Department, Kern and another man got into an argument outside of a residence on Norene Street, which escalated into a physical altercation. Police say Kern shot the other man in his lower body.

The victim was treated at an Anchorage hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The shooting was reported to APD just after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Police shut down part of Norene Street to investigate the shooting.

Kern has been charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct involving weapons. He is being held at the Anchorage Correctional Complex with his initial bail being set at $55,000 plus a third-party custodian.

He will be arraigned Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
