Nome, South advance to title game in South hoops tourney

The Nome Nanooks and South Wolverines claimed spots in the championship game of the O'Brady's Invitational boys basketball tournament by winning semifinal games Friday at South High.

Nome beat Petersburg 47-35 and South topped Palmer 53-43 to advance to Saturday's 8:30 p.m. title game.

In consolation-round action, Grace Christian beat Glennallen 50-41 and Lathrop nipped Ketchikan 70-68.

Brydin Pacheco racked up eight points, 11 rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks to power the Wolverines. Jake Swenson added 14 points and Wyatt Babiak 10 for South, and Clayton Southwick totaled 12 points and seven rebounds to lead Palmer.

In Grace's victory, Trevor Osborne poured in 19 points, hitting five of 11 3-point attempts, and Tobin Karlberg added 13 points for the Grizzlies. Brent Sampson dropped in 20 points to lead Glennallen.

The tournament wraps up Saturday with four games at South, beginning with the 2 p.m. seventh-place game between Glennallen and Ketchikan.

Grace Christian and Lathrop will meet at 3:45 in the fifth-place game, and Petersburg will play for third place against the Palmer.

Service 60, ACS 47

Pindo Drammeh pumped in a game-high 22 points and Eben Upton scored 11 in the pivotal fourth quarter Friday, boosting Service to a 60-47 nonconference boys basketball win over Anchorage Christian.

Service lead 34-32 after three quarters but took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lions 26-15.

Upton sank nine of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter for the Cougars and finished with 13 points. Brad Wacker added 12 points, seven of them coming in the fourth quarter, and Nathan Fromm had 10.

ACS was led by Levi Auble's 18 points and Bobby Wilson's 10.
