Troopers: St. Marys man arrested after stabbing

Twenty-seven-year-old Kyle Thompson of St. Marys is facing assault charges after Alaska State Troopers say he stabbed his girlfriend in the stomach with a knife while intoxicated.

According to charges filed in St. Marys district court Friday, Thompson stabbed his girlfriend Tiffany George with a 2-inch-wide carving knife on the left side of her abdomen between her ribs.

The St. Marys village public safety officer was notified about the stabbing at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, after a phone call from a health aide.

The complaint alleges that when the VPSO found George, she was "yelling and screaming complaining about pain in her stomach." George's white shirt also had a "large, fresh blood stain" and her face was swollen and bloody, trooper Brian Haley wrote in the complaint.

George told law enforcement she didn't know what happened, but that she was trying to run from Thompson.

George was taken to St. Marys' medical clinic before being transported on a LifeMed flight to Anchorage.

When Haley arrived at Thompson's house, he claimed he didn't remember anything. He told the trooper his girlfriend had been at the house but not for two hours. Thompson did say they had argued but denied the physical altercation.

Thompson had blood and scrapes on his right hand and smelled strongly of alcohol, the complaint alleges.

Thompson's blood alcohol level was 0.115, according to the complaint.

The complaint also alleges there was blood found in the kitchen, hallway and bedroom and on a carving knife.

"There was also broken dishes in the living room and a carbon monoxide detector had been knocked off the wall. It appeared there had been a struggle or confrontation in the house," Haley reported.

The VPSO told Haley that the couple had a history of domestic violence.

Thompson is charged with first- and second-degree assault. Online court records show he was taken to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center. His bail has been set at $50,000, plus a third-party custodian.
