Prep hockey: West blitzes Bartlett; other CIC teams go 2-2 against out-of-town foes

West 6, Bartlett 1

West fired 63 shots at a pair of Bartlett goaltenders Saturday en route to a 6-2 Cook Inlet Conference hockey triumph at Ben Boeke Arena.

Michael Curran scored twice and handed out two assists and Codie Cope, Roman Hamm, Alex Bardsley and Ray Harren added goals for the Eagles (8-3), who built a 6-0 lead over two periods.

Cody Bell provided a third-period goal for Bartlett (0-12), which had 11 shots on goal against West goalie Hunter Robertson. Dmitri Trihub and Blayze Denton shared goaltending duties for Bartlett, with Trihub stopping 22 shots and Denton turning back 35.

Dimond 6, Soldotna 2

Tanner Rath had two goals and an assist for Dimond, which also got goals from Matthew Larson, Tyler Dunn, Blaine Orton and Cody Dearing in its 6-2 nonconference hockey win over Soldotna on Saturday at Ben Boeke.

The Lynx scored four times in the first period, including short-handed goals by Rath and Dunn.

Ty Fenton and Calvin Hills scored for Soldotna, which got 32 saves from Billy Yoder.

Brendon Laporte stopped 12 shots for the Lynx.

Lathrop 2, East 1

Hayden Masterson and Joshua Clifton scored goals to carry Lathrop to a 2-1 win over East in a Saturday afternoon nonconference hockey game at Ben Boeke.

Masterston struck in the first period and Clifton made it 2-0 with 12:48 left in the third period. Eleven seconds later, Ryan Solberg tallied East's lone goal.

Lathrop goalie Emelia Helms-Leslie stopped 18 shots and East goalie Matthew Purvis stopped 15.

West Valley 6, Eagle River 2

Caleb Moretz fired off two first-period goals Saturday to spark West Valley's 6-2 nonconference hockey win over Eagle River at the McDonald Center.

Eagle River goaltender Trent Burnham withstood 53 shots on goal and stopped 47 of them.

The Wolfpack led 4-0 after the first period, 5-0 after the second and 6-0 after Tayllor Geil's power-play goal early in the third period.

Eagle River's Kyle Johnson struck twice in the third period to foil a shutout bid by West Valley goalie Brayden DeWeese, who had 10 saves on 12 shots on goal.

South 5, North Pole 2

Noah Ashley scored two goals and Kris Heck provided three assists to help South to a 5-2 win over North Pole in nonconference hockey action at Ben Boeke on Saturday.

Ashley found the net twice in the second period, which ended with the Wolverines ahead 2-1. South put the Patriots away with third-period goals by Bryson Schmitz and Daniel Ramsey.

John Matson scored a first-period goal for South, which pelted North Pole goalie Jimmy Culley with 40 shots. Carmen Teel and Jason Donald scored for the Patriots.
