Dimond-West skates past Service-East

Hannah Hartwell had a hand in all four goals Thursday in Dimond-West's 4-0 victory over Service-East at Dempsey Anderson Arena, where six girls hockey teams from Anchorage and Fairbanks are playing an end-of-season tournament.

Hartwell scored twice and assisted on teammate Kendra Robbins' two goals. Also handing out two assists for Dimond-West was Tami Suenram.

Gabi Gibson stopped 18 shots on goal for the winners, and Vandalyn Hudson recorded 31 saves for Service-East.

In Thursday's other early game, goals by Jessica Carlson and Megan Kubicheck provided an early lead for the Arctic Bears Dark in a 2-1 win in an all-Fairbanks game.

The Dark side took a 2-0 lead into the final period against the Arctic Bears White, which used a third-period goal from Courtney Cox to avoid the shutout.

Sabrina Nichols made 20 saves for the winners and Aubrielle Champagne registered 15 for the White squad.

In the late game, Kirsten Watts scored two goals and assisted on the other to lead Chugiak-Eagle River to a 3-1 win over South-Bartlett. Sarah Anderson scored for South-Bartlett.

Competition continues Friday with six games at Dempsey Anderson. The top two teams advance to a title game Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ben Boeke.
