Fairbanks hockey notes (and a couple college items too)

UAF moved into sole possession of fifth place in the WCHA -- and did rival UAA a small favor -- with Friday's 3-1 win over visiting Lake Superior State.

Tyler Morley scored one goal and assisted on another to give him 10-19--29 totals in 25 games. He's tied for the team lead in goals and leads the Nanooks in assists and points.

Garrick Perry scored a goal, Jared Larson bagged the empty-net goal and Sean Cahill made 20 saves.

About that favor to UAA: The Seawolves are last on the 10-team circuit, two points behind the ninth-place tie between idle Alabama-Huntsville and Lake Superior State. So, the Nanooks get the Lakers from getting a bigger cushion on UAA, which, if it finishes 10th, will not qualify for the WCHA playoffs. UAA has two games in hand on the Lakers and one on Huntsville.

In the NAHL, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs continued to torture the Kenai River Brown Bears, pummeling the visitors 7-2. Fairbanks is 8-1-0 against Kenai River this season, with seven more meetings to come.

Jesper Ohrvall furnished Fairbanks two goals and nine shots, Jacob Hetz went 1-2--3, Chandler Madry had a playmaker (three helpers) and Patrick Munson made 22 saves.

Back on the college front, Penn State junior winger Casey Bailey of Anchorage had one goal and two helpers in a 5-2 win over woeful Wisconsin. He's got 19-13--32 totals in 25 games and is +10.

And Dartmouth junior winger Brad Schierhorn of Anchorage had 1-2--3 totals in a 6-3 win at Brown to push his totals to 8-8--16 and +10 in 22 games.
