Another person in custody for January homicide

Another person is in custody Monday for the fatal East Anchorage shooting in January that left 20-year-old Jeanpal Borge dead.

Simon Chuar, 20, turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest Sunday, said Jennifer Castro, Anchorage Police Department communications director. Chuar faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and misconduct involving weapons for the Jan. 29 shooting in a Bragaw Street parking lot.

Police have also arrested 18-year-old Nathaniel Kile Jr. and 19-year-old Makur Chan in connection with the crime that police have described as a drug deal gone awry.

Less than a week before the Jan. 29 shooting, 18-year-old Charles Steinhilpert III was shot and killed outside Walgreens near Lake Otis Parkway and Tudor Road. Two groups of teens met in the parking lot for a drug deal, police said. Chan was also arrested in connection to the Jan. 25 homicide as well as 19-year-old Timothy Funches, 18-year-old Keiara Reynaud and a 14-year-old boy whose name has not been released because of his age.
