Willow's Johnston fastest non-cyclist in Susitna 100

David Johnston was the fastest non-wheeled racer in the Susitna 100 endurance race, which wrapped up over the weekend.

Johnston, of Willow, was the first runner to complete the 100-mile course, crossing the finish line in 21 hours, 19 minutes and 28 seconds. The next-closest runner was women's division winner Rachel Gano, who finished in 29:34:34.

Johnston is the record-holder for competitors in the footrace, having completed the course in 18 hours, 22 minutes in 2014.

Jan Tomsen won the women's and overall ski title by completing the course in 23:26:59, about five hours ahead of Aurora Agee. The only other skier to complete the course was men's division winner Samuel Chamberlain, who did it in 37:32:06.

The race was held on hard-packed trails that made bicycles the preferred mode of transport for most racers. Tim Berntson won the men's bicycle division in 10:40:26, while Laura Fox was the women's bicycle division winner in 13:45:06.
