Troopers: Man threatened to kill village police officer, attacked with ATV

A Selawik man is facing charges after he threatened to kill a village police officer in the Northwest Alaska community of Noorvik Saturday, then rammed the officer's ATV with his own, Alaska State Troopers said.

The VPO -- who was also on an ATV at the time of the incident -- had been attempting to stop 22-year-old Tommy Snyder while Snyder was driving an ATV, troopers reported in an online dispatch. Snyder responded to the VPO's attempt to pull him over with a threat to kill the officer, then crashed his ATV into the officer's vehicle, troopers said.

Neither man was injured in the collision.

Snyder was arrested and charged with third-degree assault of an officer, driving under the influence and a warrant arrest, troopers said. He was taken to the Kotzebue jail pending his arraignment.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
