UAA women stay on top of national rankings

For the second straight week, the UAA women's basketball team is tops in the nation.

The Seawolves received 21 out of a possible 32 first-place votes in the USA Today NCAA Division II poll, which was released Tuesday.

The Seawolves (25-1) won a pair of close conference games over the weekend to push their winning streak to 13 games. The team clinched a Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season championship Saturday with its win at Western Washington.

During a press conference Tuesday, UAA coach Ryan McCarthy said he thinks his team can get even better as it heads toward the postseason.

"I feel like we're playing some very good basketball, but definitely not our best basketball, which is good," McCarthy said.

UAA completes its regular season schedule with home games against No. 19 Seattle Pacific on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and against Montana State Billings on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both games are at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves will receive a bye in the first round of the GNAC playoffs. They'll open tournament play Friday, March 6 in the semifinal round of the tournament in Billings.
