Unmarked APD car involved in Tuesday morning traffic collision

An on-duty Anchorage police officer was driving an unmarked car when it was involved in a late morning collision at a busy Midtown Anchorage intersection, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Responding officer Kevin Armstrong said that at 10:45 a.m the APD officer, whose identity wasn't immediately released, was heading to a report of a stolen vehicle in an unmarked blue police car when he collided with a white SUV at the intersection of C Street and Tudor Road.

Armstrong said both the officer and the driver of the SUV were sent to local hospitals as a precaution, but neither of their injuries were life-threatening.

APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said an investigation is still ongoing. The accident delayed traffic briefly, but by about 11:50 a.m., Castro said, all lanes had been reopened.
