UAA guard Thompson is All-GNAC pick again

UAA guard Travis Thompson of Anchorage, who leads the men's basketball team in scoring and owns school and conference records for 3-pointers, on Monday was named an All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection for the second straight season.

Thompson's selection in a vote of league coaches marked the third time he has been honored in his career – he was an All-GNAC pick last season and a second-team selection in 2012.

The 6-foot-1 redshirt senior from Dimond High – Thompson took off the 2012-13 season to concentrate on his engineering studies – tops the Seawolves with 17.2 points per game and buries 44.1 percent of his 3-point attempts. He also averages 3.3 assists per game and sinks 82.5 percent of his free throws.

UAA guard Brian McGill, second among Seawolves in scoring (14.2 ppg) and tops in assists (5.4 per game), was named to the league's honorable mention team. McGill makes 50.6 percent of his field-goal attempts.

The Seawolves (16-12, 12-6 GNAC) open the conference tournament in Billings, Montana, on Thursday as the No. 4 seed and take on No. 5 seed Western Washington at 5:30 p.m. AST.

Northwest Nazarene forward Kevin Rima of Fairbanks was named to the All-GNAC second-team. The redshirt senior has averaged 12.3 ppg this season on 57.0-percent shooting and leads his team in rebounding with 7.4 per game.
