Three convicted in Fairview home invasion

Three Anchorage men were convicted Wednesday for their roles in a 2012 home invasion and robbery, the Anchorage District Attorney's Office said.

Taylor R. Smith, 26, Richard A. Erdman, 28, and James E. Smith, 21, were convicted of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and second-degree assault by an Anchorage jury for their roles in a Aug. 9, 2012 home invasion that left one man with "significant injuries," the DA's office wrote in a Thursday morning press release.

The three men broke into an Anchorage home in the area of Karluk Street and 15th Avenue, attacked a man inside, and stole his belongings before fleeing, the district attorney wrote.

Anchorage police caught up with the intruders' vehicle within minutes, but the men fled on foot.

The trio was indicted in January 2013 and arrested later, the district attorney's office said. Their trial began Feb. 3 and lasted a month. The jury deliberated for two days.

All three of the men face up to 20 years in prison for first-degree robbery.

James Smith will be sentenced June 12. Sentencing dates for Taylor Smith and Erdman have not been set.
