Anchorage police investigate fatal Fairview shooting

The Anchorage Police Department says one man is dead after a shooting in Fairview early Friday morning.

At about 4 a.m., Anchorage police received calls about "shots fired" in the area of 12th Avenue and Gambell Street, according to Anchorage police detective Sgt. Slav Markiewicz.

When police arrived, they found a man unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of Alexander's Body Shop. He was taken to an Anchorage hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Markiewicz said.

By 5 p.m. Friday, police had made no arrests in the shooting, said Jennifer Castro, APD communications director.

Markiewicz asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call police at 786-8900 or Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.

This is the second homicide of the week and ninth of the year in Anchorage.
