What would Jesus do with the budget?

Rep. Rob Woodall, R-Ga., said, "A budget is a moral document; it talks about where your values are." They plan to take away $1 trillion from welfare, food stamps and the Affordable Care Act and give $40 billion more for military spending. That's their moral values.

They might as well just shoot the sick and the poor.

I suspect the Republicans would respond, "Of course, it's a moral budget." And that's where we worship different Gods. Mine isn't money. My God tells me we're here on Earth to help each other. WWJD?

Deserved nod to Alyeska's ironman

Thank you for sharing the great story about Gary Mashburn, Alyeska's ironman.

It was well-written and truly reflected the great dedication and good spirit of Gary, who has been a diehard skier at Alyeska Resort for many decades. Since he is normally the first skier on the mountain he tells other skiers where the best trail conditions are that day.

In 1996, Gary made a stop at the Waterfall area, when another skier raced by him out of control at high speed and crashed into the canyon below. Nobody else saw it and if Gary had not alerted the ski patrol, the skier, Tom Persons, would probably have died, as he was way down in the canyon and seriously injured.

Thank you, Gary.

Please return quilt stolen from library

To the person who stole the quilt from the Anchorage Log Cabin Quilters "Celebration of Quilts" display on the third floor of the Loussac Library, we strongly urge you to return the quilt to the security office, no questions asked. Bad karma never leads to good results.

We display our quilts each year at the library for the patrons and public to enjoy, but to have one of our quilts stolen is very disappointing.

Please know that our Quilt Guild donates over 100 bed-size quilts a year to charitable causes in Anchorage and over 250 small quilts (with stuffed animals) to Anchorage children in need.

When you steal from any of us, you steal from the whole community.

Thank you.

Vindictive 'dog kickers' in Legislature

In my small-town home in Virginia, we had a very few people we called "Dog Kickers." For example, Mr. A didn't like something Mr. B said or did. So whenever he got the chance, Mr. A would kick Mr. B's dog, or chase Mr. B's children off his lawn. Mr. A, of course, couldn't have been elected to the town council, or to the county board of governors, because the people knew him too well.

Apparently, however, he could have been elected to the Alaska Legislature, as evidenced by the recent actions of the legislative caucus in "punishing" Lora Reinbold.
