SEWARD -- Alaska State Troopers say a 24-year-old driver for a moving company was operating on a suspended license when he crashed into a SUV on the Sterling Highway, injuring a woman behind the wheel.
Troopers say John Poiane on Monday was driving a moving van north at Mile 50 for Continental Van Lines when he lost control on the icy highway, crossed a double yellow line on a corner and struck a southbound SUV head-on.
Troopers say a guardrail prevented 47-year-old Lara McGinnis from maneuvering out of the way of the big truck.
McGinnis suffered a serious head injury.
She was transported by Central Emergency Services to Soldotna.
Troopers say Poiane was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license.
