Christianson a distant 39th at national alpine championships

Kieffer Christianson of Anchorage struggled to a 39th-place finish in the giant slalom at Friday's U.S. Alpine Championships in Sugarloaf, Maine.

Christianson, who had a couple of World Cup starts earlier this season, was one of the higher seeds in the race.

But his first run was 10 seconds slower than the fastest pace, and he finished with a two-run total time that was more than 12 seconds slower than Tim Jitloff's winning time.
