JUNEAU -- Attorneys for the group behind the proposed Pebble Mine want to force an Internet services provider to preserve emails from a former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency employee and an attorney who has represented Pebble critics.
Attorneys for the Pebble Limited Partnership asked a judge Monday for permission to serve a subpoena on Alaska Communications.
They say they're concerned the emails will be deleted as part of routine server maintenance and file-clearing procedures by Alaska Communications.
Pebble has sued EPA and claims the agency went into a study on large-scale mining in the Bristol Bay region intending to veto the Pebble project.
EPA says Pebble had meaningful input into the agency study, which concluded large-scale mining posed significant risk to salmon in the region. EPA says the lawsuit should be dismissed.
