An inmate at Palmer Correctional Center in Sutton died Saturday, the Alaska State Trooper said in an online dispatch.
Troopers were called to the jail at 6:46 a.m. Saturday for a report of CPR in progress.
When troopers arrived, medics and Department of Corrections staff were attempting to resuscitate Grant Simmons, 55, of Valdez, the dispatch said.
A doctor then pronounced Simmons dead.
"There are no signs of foul play," the dispatch said.
The state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on the body.
