House fire near Palmer a total loss, no injuries reported

An early morning fire destroyed a home near Palmer, but no injuries are reported, according to an emergency services official.

Multiple emergency crews responded to a call of a fire at a single-family home at 7:54 a.m. Monday at the 7700 block of North Josephine Circle, near Palmer. The fire was safely extinguished by 9 a.m. according to Ken Barkley, Mat-Su Emergency Services deputy director of fire and rescue.

Barkley said crews are still at the scene monitoring hot spots and investigating the cause of the fire, which was unknown Monday morning.

Barkley said crews from Butte, Sutton, Palmer and Central Mat-Su responded to help extinguish the blaze. Matanuska Electric Association shut off power to the house, and a crew from the Division of Forestry helped contain the fire from spreading to nearby trees.

The home is considered a total loss. Barkley said three people staying in the residence safely made it out and the Red Cross is assisting them.
