'Deadliest Catch' captain catches up with Snoop Dogg on web series

Johnathan Hillstrand, one of the captains from Discovery Channel's hit Bering Sea crabbing series "Deadliest Catch," has sparked up a friendship with someone he describes as a "pretty cool cat, or dog." Rap legend Snoop Dogg, to be specific, and soon the world will see the captain of the Time Bandit in action with his unlikely new friend during an episode of Snoop's YouTube series, the "Double G News Network," or "GGN."

Like most episodes of the rap artist's webcast, which discusses "hood news," Snoop smoked marijuana throughout the filming, including blunts and what Hillstrand described as "an 8-inch marijuana cig" over nearly two hours.

"I may have gotten a little bit of a contact high," Hillstrand -- popularly known as "Captain Johnathan" to fans of the show -- said Wednesday.

The captain of the F/V Time Bandit said Snoop's a big fan of the Discovery Channel show and "doesn't miss an episode."

Hillstrand said that the rapper is also still looking to do the concert he promised Alaskans during a 2014 interview with marijuana activist Charlo Green. Snoop said he'd perform a concert in the state if marijuana was legalized, which it was in November. Hillstrand said the rapper is just trying to find the right venue and time of year.

And the rapper, who has found his place as a multifaceted entertainer, also wants to spend a little time on the deck of the Time Bandit. Hillstrand, whose favorite Snoop Dogg track is "Drop It Like It's Hot," said he might be able to take him out for a three-hour tour.

The two became friends a couple of years ago after a chance encounter at the InterContinental Los Angeles Century City Hotel. Snoop was attending the MTV Music Awards and ran into the captain on an elevator multiple times.

The rapper gave Hillstrand his awards show pass with the Snoop Lion name printed on the front and made what Hillstrand described as a short rap video in the elevator.

It was an experience Hillstrand said the two reminisced about while filming the GGN episode Tuesday. It's unclear when the video will go live, but Hillstrand said he expects it to run over the summer.
