Soccer shutouts for Cougars, Lynx

Service 3, Bartlett 0

Goalkeeper Caleb Van Blankenstein got a share of a shutout and four stitches to his face Wednesday while helping the Service Cougars blank the Bartlett Golden Bears 3-0 in a Cook Inlet Conference boys soccer match at The Dome.

Van Blankenstein left the match late in the first half with an injury.

"He took a cleat to the face while making a save," Service coach Dan Rufner said. "We told him it was good it isn't prom this weekend."

Jacob Andrews replaced Van Blankenstein and preserved the shutout.

The match was scoreless through the first half but Service took a 1-0 on Azzam Azzam's right-footed blast from 10 in the 50th minute.

John Yoon and Lucas Warthen added goals in the last five minutes to provide the final margin of victory.
