Bear photo-bombs volcano webcam

A webcam monitoring volcanic activity at Mount Shishaldin in the Aleutians captured a different sign of life on Thursday when a bear appeared in the frame.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory webcam, which sits on the Isanotski volcano and faces Shishaldin, transmits still images which can be viewed online as a time-lapse video of the last 12 hours. The images for Thursday morning showed the usual picturesque scene, with a monitoring device visible in the foreground and Shishaldin steaming in the background.

But at 12:59 p.m., the camera picked up a large bear inspecting the equipment. A Facebook post from the National Weather Service Alaska suggested it was a brown bear.

By the next frame, taken at 1:23, there was no sign of the bear, and the scene was desolate once again.
