Traveler's loaded pistol confiscated at Juneau airport

JUNEAU — Police say a 64-year-old man's loaded pistol was confiscated after it was found in his carry-on bag at Juneau International Airport.

Juneau police and airport manager Patty deLaBruere said Thursday no evacuation was initiated in the incident Wednesday morning.

Juneau police Sgt. Chris Gifford tells the Juneau Empire newspaper the man was not arrested because it appears he mistakenly left the weapon in the bag.

Police say the man was trying to board an Alaska Airlines flight when the incident occurred at the screening checkpoint.

Gifford says police were notified by the federal Transportation Security Administration.

TSA spokeswoman Lori Dankers says the passenger was allowed to continue with his travels to Seattle.

In late March, the airport was partially evacuated after a bullet was found on a passenger ramp. Two flights were delayed after that incident.
