Troopers: Elementary school student tried to stab classroom aide

A student who brought a "small pocket knife" to Knik Elementary School in Wasilla Wednesday morning lunged at a teacher's aide with the blade when confronted about it, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers, who were called about the incident shortly after 9:30 a.m., said the 11-year-old student brought the knife to school from his home.

"A short time after the student's arrival, a teaching aide had observed the student standing in his classroom with his hands behind his back," troopers wrote in an online dispatch posted Thursday.

When the aide asked the student to reveal what he had behind his back, the boy lunged at the aide "in an attempt to stab/cut" them, troopers wrote. The aide moved out of the way, and the student then attempted to throw the knife at the aide but missed, troopers said.

The student was subdued by another teacher. The boy was released to his father as possible charges of misconduct involving weapons and third-degree assault are reviewed, troopers said. No one was injured in the incident.
