With tripod stuck, Nenana Ice Classic still underway Friday morning

The Nenana Ice Classic was still underway early Friday morning, with the tripod stuck in an ice jam after it tipped Thursday, competition officials said in an automated message updated Friday morning.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, a recorded message at Nenana Ice Classic offices said the tripod could be stuck in the jam for "a day or a week."

A complicated pulley system is designed to trip the competition's official clock when the tripod moves about 100 feet. By Thursday night, it had moved about 50 feet, then stopped.

"At this point, there is no place for the tripod to go," the recorded message said.
