Anchorage woman arrested after trying to hide in trunk during traffic stop

A 27-year-old Anchorage woman was arrested after Alaska State Troopers saw her try to climb into the trunk of a car during a Kenai Peninsula traffic stop, troopers said.

In an online dispatch, troopers reported they pulled over a blue 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier near Mile 142 of the Sterling Highway by Anchor Point shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday for speeding.

As troopers got close to the vehicle, they wrote, they could see someone trying to crawl into the trunk. Only the person's legs were visible.

That person was later identified as Madison Chacon, who was wanted on an arrest warrant for a previous theft charge, troopers said. Chacon at first tried to hide her identity from troopers by giving them a fake identification, troopers said, but she was "known to law enforcement and her true identity was quickly determined."

She was arrested on the outstanding warrant, and also charged with providing false information.

Chacon was taken to the Homer jail and held on $1,000 bail.
