T-birds win East/West Invite
Alexis Joubert and Daisy Page capped dominant tournament performances by leading the undefeated East softball team to a 9-1 victory over Sitka in five innings Saturday in the championship of the East/West Invitational at Albrecht Fields.
Joubert went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs for the T-birds. She finished the tournament with four home runs and 11 RBIs in four games for the T-birds.
"She's on fire," said East coach Paul Schoenborn.
Page had a quartet of complete-game victories, including Saturday's five-hit outing. She also went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs at the plate.
Schoenborn said Sitka -- which pushed East to its limit in a 5-3 loss Friday -- gave his team all it could handle despite the lopsided championship game score.
"They're a very tough team," he said.
In the tournament's other game Saturday, South defeated Cook Inlet Conference rival West 8-3 to claim third place in the four-team field. Rachel White struck out seven batters and gave up two hits to earn the win for the Wolverines, who got 2-for-3 performances from White, Leilani Blair, Tristan Tolan and Danni Desjarlais.
