About two dozen Seawolves set for track & field nationals

UAA has declared a squad of 23 athletes – 14 men and nine women – for individual events and one men's relay team for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships later this month in Allendale, Michigan.

Among those Seawolves are 15 who Monday were honored as All-West Region selections after they finished either among the top five individuals in the region or as a member of a top-three relay team in the region.

As UAA prepares for the national championships May 21-23, seven Seawolves who have been declared for nationals have delivered times or marks that place them within the top 10 nationally in Division II.

Junior distance runner Dominik Notz ranks second in the 10,000 meters with his effort of 29 minutes, 26.29 seconds, and sits fifth among 5,000-meter runners with his 14:07.05. Freshman Henry Cheseto stands ninth in the 5,000 with his 14:08.86.

Also on the men's side, senior javelin thrower Franz Burghagen ranks second at 224 feet, 10 inches, and junior Cody Parker, the 2013 national outdoor champion, checks in at eighth with his throw of 216-3.

UAA senior Haleigh Lloyd ranks fourth nationally in the 400-meter hurdles (59.20) and senior Amy Johnston is sixth in the 10,000 with her 35:01.46. Junior heptathlete Karolin Anders, the national runner-up in that event last spring, ranks eighth with 5,162 points.

The Seawolves men and women last weekend each finished second in the team standings at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference meet in Monmouth, Oregon.
